AFP Transformers, LLC, designs and manufactures
Harmonic Filter Inductors for the power factor correcting and
harmonic suppression industry. Our broad product line of harmonic
filter inductors ranges from small single or three phase, low
voltage units to large single-phase devices typically used in
medium voltage applications. Harmonic Filter Inductors are also
referred to as Harmonic Filter Reactors or Tuning Reactors. These
products differ from other types of inductors, reactors or chokes
in their design and construction characteristics.
A Harmonic Filter Inductor is often wrongly referred
to as a line reactor. These are two vastly different products.
A Harmonic Filter Inductor is designed and manufactured to be
installed and packaged with Power Factor Correcting capacitors.
As a result, the Harmonic Filter Inductor has amongst its design
characteristics a large consideration for harmonic currents. It
is most common to have harmonic current ratings greater than the
fundamental 60 Hz current rating. "Harmonic compensated"
line reactors are typically designed for a maximum of 20% harmonic
current flow (or less) continuously.
Features for AFPs Harmonic Filter Inductors
are:
- Copper windings;
- Balanced core and coil heating;
- Less than 20% of watts loss as a result of fringing (also
referred to as "Gap Losses");
- Inductances tuned to specifically match capacitor KVAR ratings;
- 200 C insulation system rating as a minimum. Most designs
utilize 220 C insulation system;
- 115 C maximum temperature rise. 80 C and 100 C rises also
available;
- 20 year operating life expectancies when used at the rated
current values.
AFP has Harmonic Filter Inductors available in
a few "standard" sizes and models; but most applications
require a product specifically designed for your application.
